Maybe, the appearance of "intelligence" in verbal replies does not make AI smart. Perhaps a few tweeks of 0's and 1's in a neural net makes AI change its answers to appear it has some moral stance. Perhaps, AI is strong on "artificial" and short on "intelligence". I don't put much stock in relating human traits with a statistical (mostly regression based) algorithms at this time. Feed it more garbage and it spews: words, music, art, etc.. which may fool us into loving the machine ,and, forget what being human is about, perhaps, we never knew. Regardless of my limitations, it will take a lot more for me to "anthropomorphize' algorithms. It's fun to think about it though.
One good thing about the advent of AI is that it might encourage us to up our game and establish our values, standards and boundaries. And our aspirations. At the moment, many of us just seem bewildered thus making AI appear more 'intelligent' than it is. And fun is something we might also encourage - such a human trait.
Thanks for allowing me to not only access it but to comment on it even though I haven't burdened you with my sob story which is why I can't even handle a modest subscription.
It means a lot when so many stacks won't share knowledge without money changing hands, and enforce stultifying echo chambers to ensure only " Dedicated Followers of Fashion" are part of the discussion and nothing can be disputed.
And you not only share your work unstintingly, you even allow open disagreement and criticism without censorship.
So I appreciate your acknowledgement, but right back atcha, in spades.
I made a decision a while back to keep my stuff free to all and just allow voluntary subscriptions from anyone who sees value in it and has the means.
And no hard feelings about not having any extra cash yourself for whatever reason. I was broke most of my adult life for a variety of reasons until the past few years.
Well thanks for that too. I had no way of knowing if you were as destitute as me.
I just have to laugh, I mean I really can't catch a break--of all the afflictions a guy can sustain, ripping the tendon completely off the bone of the first joint of the middle finger of my fretting hand was just the Cherry on Top for me as a musician.
And it came just as I was figuring out how to keep going, with a monitor on a stand pressed against my chest and connected both to my mic and the keyboard.
Not like I don't have some good luck, though. My injury was so gnarly the hand therapy practice have me fully double the appointments my insurance would cover and that got me up to 50 percent of normal grip strength.
I don't need much grip to play, but it helps opening jars for sure.
That's just a slice of what could be The New Never Ending Story.
But after awhile there really is no choice but to just laugh and get on with it.
Scary to imagine these systems having their "ethical frameworks" defined by the likes of Yuval Harari (WEF), Tal Broda (OpenAI), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), etc.
I laughed when I read that report.
But, I'm not a robot. Maybe AI has been granted a sense of humour and is teasing us!
Or AI isn't very intelligent, along with its programmers, and yet it will evenutally be granted powers over us.
In the meantime, I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas.
and to you as well! I have noticed how loyal of a reader you are over the last year and I appreciate it very much.

I like the way you think!

Wishing you a fun-filled Christmas.
A Merry Christmas to you as well. May the new year be a less bloody one. My wish standards have fallen these years.
Why am I not surprised? The devil himself is programming AI.
I would like to see the same issue framed as:
A) Saying " Honky Cracker" or
B) Killing a million Blacks.
I would not count on a similar response to the original quandary.
I imagine not.
Thanks for being a loyal reader, John. God bless.
