Trump IS his speeches. He's the President of the United States. What he says is policy and now it's carved in stone. Most often, in this country, a great change starts with a speech. People are paying attention, and he has just signaled to the neocons, the CIA, and the military, that a change is coming. I wish people would just give their cynicism a rest. After the last four harrowing years we need a breather.
Trump is an actor like the others, and the script writers have decided it's time for a plot twist. As you say, the last 5 years have been "harrowing" which suggests that the ground was prepared for this. It remains to be seen what the harvest will be.
