Joseph Conrad wrote Heart of Darkness back when writers could still use colorful racial descriptors in a literary context and not get deplatformed by Google.

I read it once a long time ago, probably in high school, but didn’t appreciate its significance then, as was the case with 1984 and numerous other books of consequence. Appreciation of such things perhaps requires some personal life experience under your belt.
